Dan Mongiardo for Senate

Stones' Phones' Self Funded Field program

The Problem

In 2004, state Senator Dr. Dan Mongiardo was running a long-shot Senate campaign against incumbent Senator Jim Bunning, in the solidly "red" state of Kentucky. Because Dr. Mongiardo was a bit of a long shot candidate, few organizations and volunteers were willing to offer their time and money to this seemingly unwinnable race. Understanding this shortcoming, the Mongiardo campaign began to look at different ways to increase interest in this race and turned to Stones' Phones for innovative and effective fundraising options.

The Stones' Phones Solution

To build a network of contributors and volunteers that would invigorate and mobilize the Mongiardo campaign, Stones' Phones used our signature Self Funded Field program. This program calls targeted voters with an automated phone message using the most sophisticated phone technology in the business. For the Mongiardo campaign, the message was recorded in the Dr. Dan's voice, asked the voter to press 1 to volunteer for the campaign, press 2 to contribute or press 3 to volunteer and contribute. Initially, we targeted better voting Democrats in Kentucky and later broadcast the message to all Democrats and Independents in the state.

The Result

Throughout the campaign, Self Funded Field brought in over $82,000 in critical low-dollar contributions from across Kentucky. This Self-Funded Field program also brought in a multitude of volunteers who were essential to the mobilization and GOTV efforts of the Mongiardo campaign. These supporters turned a race that was initially written off as a non-competitive race, to become one of the closest Senate races in the nation.
